Time pt2

There are two words for time in Greek:

Chronos

        Is about quantity

        Measured in minutes

        Is finite (past, present, future)

        Time that we consume

        Sequential

        A daily reality

        Imagine a Watch

Kairos

        Is about quality

        Measured in Moments

        Is Infinite (Enteral)

        Time that Consumes us

        Seasonal

        A spiritual opportunity

        Imagine a Window

EGR

EGR (Extra Grace Required)

If you have ever had any EGRs (Extra Grace Required) people in your life (and if you are older than a preschooler you have), then Jonah is your Man.  In his time, there was City called Nineveh, and it was filled with 120,000 of people who were in need of extra Grace.  God in his infinite love and mercy, wanted Jonah to be the prophet who would lead Nineveh to repentance and transformation.  Jonah in his human wisdom, did not think that the Ninivites (often called the Nazi’s of the ancient world) were worthy of God’s love.  What unfolds is a wrestling match between a disobedient prophet and the plan and purpose of a loving God.  Trusting and Obeying God is not always easy, in fact, doing what God wants by definition should be a challenge that requires help from something that is bigger than ourselves.  But in the end it is easier to struggle with God, than to struggle against God and Whales and any other thing that will reroute us so that we are able to follow the pathway of God.

Love and Value

Love and Value are two different things. Love is hot like the sun, but like the sun it can be cooled by clouds, by distance, or even a small rotational adjustment of a body.

Value though is deeper. Value is the about the goodness we see in someone, the respect we have for their talents and abilities, the importance we find in who a person is in the deepest parts of their Soul. It is easy for love to have highs and love, but when we really value someone, that is something that will slowly grow the more we know them and the more we see who they really are at the purest levels of their Creation.

The Comforter Comforts with Comfort

After reaching a point in his life where he wished he was dead, the Apostle Paul, discovered “The Father of Compassion, the God of all Comfort.”  We can try so many other things to find inner peace, but there is only once source of endless peace, everlasting compassion, and eternal comfort.  “God does not comfort us to make us comfortable but to make us comforters.” John Henry Jewett

The God of all Comfort pt2

2 Corinthians 1:3-6 “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ. If we are distressed (afflicted), it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer.”

Two versions of the word comfort are used in this passage.  One is the Noun and one is the verb. The Noun is paraklesis and the verb is parakaleo, both of which are directly connected to the word jesus used to name the Holy Spirit, parakletos, the one whom God calls beside us to comfort us and turn our trials into triumphs.  This Sunday we will explore how the Holy Spirit connects us to “The God of All Comfort”
